AFLAC Signups

Updated On: Apr 25, 2008 (08:19:00)

AFLAC Insurance Sign Up

March 26-27 8am – 5pm at the RVFFCU

Sign ups will be held at the Roanoke Virginia Firemen Federal Credit Union on March 26th and 27th. The RVFFCU is upstairs in Fire Station 8. This sign up is simply moving all Roanoke Fire Fighters Association IAFF Local 1132 members to the RFFA AFLAC group from the old Roanoke City Group. The Roanoke City Group no longer exists.

You may come by the Credit Union from 8-5 on March 26th and 27th. Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions.

We will be submitting the forms to AFLAC on April 1st. If you cannot get by the CU on the 26th or 27th contact Rhett immediately.

Q – Will my rates stay the same?

A – Yes your rates will stay the same.

Q – Can I get more insurance or drop some of the insurance I have?

A – You cannot make changes right now, however you will be given the chance to add, drop, or change coverage in the near future. If you do not pay your bill you will be dropped.

Q – Why do I have to switch?

A – The City got rid of their group plan. Currently you are not in a group and if you change, add, or are late for a payment you will end up paying more for the same insurance.

Q - Do I have to switch to the RFFA group?

A – You don’t have to do anything. However, if you don’t switch now you will not be guaranteed the same rates if you switch later. If you do not set up payment with AFLAC you will lose insurance coverage.

Q – When can I sign up for insurance?

A – If you do not have insurance currently, you will be given the opportunity in the near future.

The signup process for AFLAC only takes about 5 minutes. If you need to join the Credit Union add about 5 more minutes and bring $6 with you ($1 set up fee and $5 minimum balance).

If you have any questions please call Rhett Fleitz at 537-8158 Cell RVFFCU # 342-5809

Call Senator Edwards Today

Updated On: Feb 08, 2008 (08:30:00)
Brothers and Sisters,
Yesterday SB329 was pulled from the uncontested block and it was requested the bill go by for the day. This is our Line of Duty bill. this bill had unanimous support before today.

It appears that Senator Edwards has had some opposition from the community in reference to our funding mechanism which would add a one and a half dollar surcharge to all monitored alarm systems. Senator Edwards must understand that in the Commonwealth last year alone we responded to nearly 800,000 calls generated by monitored alarms, most of which were false alarms. It is estimated that each of these calls had an approximate cost to our localities of $700.00-$800.00 per call. He also must understand that one of the leading cause of death or injury to Firefighters is responding to and from these calls. Citizens who are complaining about this funding mechanism are failing to realize the Millions of Dollars in property we are saving each year not to mention the value of every life we save. A bargain for their one and a half dollar investment.

I am requesting that we generate as many phone calls and emails as possible to Senator John Edwards office today and ask him to support SB329, for which he is a cosponsor.

Hopefully with your calls and emails we can get this bill passed in the Senate tomorrow.

Please call me if you have any questions.

Rodney A. Jordan
1st District Vice President
Virginia Professional Fire Fighters

(540)-537-2485
